When a person is truly baptized (and only believing, penitent, confessing persons can be TRULY baptized), as Christ commanded, God sends the Holy Spirit into his heart (the second element of the new birth); and, when viewed in connection with this divine fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit, baptism is the new birth; but it is not a birth of water only, but a birth of “water and of the Spirit” as Jesus said.
The arrogant and atheistic dictum of humanists to the effect that, modern science makes unacceptable any supernatural or cosmic guarantees of human values, deifies man himself and places within wicked and fallible men the source of all authority.
True, Jesus was not yet dead when the Pharisees determined to pay Judas exactly thirty pieces of silver; but then they fully intended to kill him as soon as possible, overlooking the parallel fact that God’s law required the “ox” to be stoned after such an incident!
Certainly, one of the legitimate meanings is that of the eternal beauty and value of the church of the living God; but there is another very curious and intriguing possibility.
What then is the great memorial name? The one which is forever and ever? Answer: It is simply this: JEHOVAH; THE GOD OF ABRAHAM; AND THE GOD OF ISAAC; AND THE GOD OF JACOB. Whatever happened here, God simply did not honor Moses’ request for God’s personal name.
It is the fundamental commandment underlying the whole economy of redemption.
