THE NEW AND BETTER COVENANT – Part 1

In Hebrews 8:6-7, this “new covenant” is contrasted with what is called “the first covenant,” or “the old covenant,” indicating that the new covenant would replace not merely those lesser covenants, but it would take the place of that covenant which was so great and comprehensive, overshadowing all others, that God called it the “first covenant.”

THE OLD TESTAMENT WITNESSES OF JESUS CHRIST – Romans 3:21

The verbal prophecies, numbering some 333, foretold the coming of the Messiah in such detail and clarity that hardly any phase of our Lord’s life and character was omitted.

THOU SHALT NOT COVET – Exodus 20

The 10th commandment is the most comprehensive of the commandments, forbidding ALL unlawful desire of every kind.

As in most of the others, with regard to committing adultery, GOD did not give a reason for this prohibition. NONE WAS NEEDED.

THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT –
REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY – Exodus 20

the Bible extols and honors the glory of the workman.

THE FIRST COMMANDMENT –
THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME – Exodus 20

The arrogant and atheistic dictum of humanists to the effect that, modern science makes unacceptable any supernatural or cosmic guarantees of human values, deifies man himself and places within wicked and fallible men the source of all authority.

THE DECALOGUE – THE TEN COMMANDMENTS – THE CODE OF HAMMURABI – Exodus 20

Christ came not to destroy but to fulfill the Law (Matthew 5:17), and yet, “He took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross” (Colossians 2:14).

THE VALUE OF MOSES’ LAW – 1 Timothy 1

Paul flatly declared that Christians are “dead to the law by the body of Christ” (Romans 7:4), this having reference, of course, to all requirements of the law in their totality.
