Whatever the serpent was, he would appear to have been an UPRIGHT creature and to have been endowed with the gift of speech.
Certainly, one of the legitimate meanings is that of the eternal beauty and value of the church of the living God; but there is another very curious and intriguing possibility.
For in him were all things created, in the heavens and upon the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and unto him; and he is before all things, and in him all things consist (Colossians 1:16-17).
We are “in Christ,” having believed in him and having been baptized into the “one body,” Christ’s spiritual body. As a result of Christ’s redemptive work, we enjoy eternal life (presently, in the joys of Christian service, and ultimately, throughout all eternity).
What then is the great memorial name? The one which is forever and ever? Answer: It is simply this: JEHOVAH; THE GOD OF ABRAHAM; AND THE GOD OF ISAAC; AND THE GOD OF JACOB. Whatever happened here, God simply did not honor Moses’ request for God’s personal name.
The great sin of Cain was simply this – he offered to God what he supposed would be just as good as what God commanded.
He was the first innovator.
